Carolyne Williams, chairperson of the Chamber board, presented the etched glass awards during their annual meeting Nov. 15 at the Southern Carolina Alliance Business Center in Barnwell. “There are so many deserving community service organizations in Barnwell County,” said John McHenry, the president of the Rotary Club, who considers it “an honor to receive the Community Service Award.”
Angie Boyles, the new executive director of the Chamber, said the Barnwell County Rotary Club “truly exemplifies” everything the award is about by living out their motto of “Service Above Self.” She cited how the organization gives out dictionaries to third graders in area schools, received the Rotary International Achievement award for the Secret Santa program, and how no child has drowned in the county since the club started their annual SWIM program.
“It’s all about service to our local community,” said McHenry of the local club, which was formed in 1990. Barnwell Rotary Club has 27 members.
