The Rotary Club of Cheraw celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Kevin Lear on Main Street in Cheraw, SC. The club was chartered on November 10, 1967 and was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bennettsville.
Charter members of the club in 1967 were Jack Baker, Charles Ingram, M. L. Koontz, and Fred Harris. Bill Kinney of the Bennettsville Rotary Club spoke at the program and shared a reading from the original minutes of the meeting where the members of Bennettsville Club approved the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Cheraw.
District 7770 Governor Gary Bradham was the keynote speaker and presented a certificate on behalf of Rotary International President Ian Risely. In addition, Governor Bradham presented Club President A. L. Hough-Everage with her 8+ Paul Harris pin. PDG Jimmie Williamson honored his father-in-law, Robert (Bob) Dickens, with a Paul Harris Fellow.
Cheraw Mayor Andy Ingram honored the club with a resolution, “On the Occasion of Their 50th Anniversary.” Club President A. L. Hough-Everage presented each club member with a custom Rotary Club of Cheraw 50th Anniversary pin.
Kim Williamson chaired the planning committee for the anniversary program. The Rotary Club of Cheraw is the home club of Past District Governor Jimmie Williamson.
