Rotary International held a Young Professional Summit in Chicago in 2014.  Two participants Justin Saltzman and Clarissa Harris came back to District 7620 and held a Young Professional Summit.  Gary Bradham, District Governor Nominee approached Alison Jean Hamilton about attending the District 7620 Young Professional Summit.  After attending Alison Jean Hamilton gained support of our District Governor Rod Funderburk to hold our own Young Professional Summit.  Justin Saltzman travelled to South Carolina and helped our District hold a Young Professional Summit in May 2016.

Porter Medley of Carolina Forest Rotary Club found a location for our event, found a Rotarian to help with lunch and recruited Rotaract Advisor Daniel Hucks and Rotaract President Theresa Calabrese to help. Ed Tassin, District Secretary, handled our registration.

The first ever District 7770 Young Professional Summit was held at The Scholars Academy on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. Young Rotarians, Young at Heart Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors throughout our district attended.  Our Summit was kicked off with lunch from Firehouse Subs.  Bob Lepore of Carolina Forest Rotary offered us the sandwiches at a greatly reduced rate.

Thanks to Gina Trimarco Cligrow of the Chicora Rotary Club we played Improv games.  Gina donated her time and players from her Carolina Improv Company to start off our event on a fun note.  The fun carried throughout the day.

Stanlee Morrison, Advisor to The Interact Club of the Scholars Academy, donated her time to host our event. The Scholars Academy Interact President Michelle Guo and the Interact Club of the Scholars Academy presented an excellent presentation about the history of Rotary, about how individual students feel about their Interact Club and about the various service projects they have held.

Our first breakout involved gathering information about various clubs in our district, dreaming about the future and developing individual strategies.  Porter Medley, Johnny Moore, Justin Saltzman, Therese Calabrese, Stanlee Morrison and Daniel Hucks were the facilitators for our first breakout sessions.  During our second breakout participants created a commercial.  Commercials were presented to all participants.  Theresa Calabrese, Rotaract President, compiled the breakout results and live streamed our event.

Thanks to Steve Jones, President of Myrtle Beach Rotary we played corn hole.

Don Stevens of Chicora Rotary donated a beautiful diamond ring set in white gold valued at $1,495.  Kathy Miranda of Myrtle Beach Rotary, also, donated $25 worth of Olive Garden Gifts Certificates.  Johnny Moore, Assistant Governor, handled the raffle during our event.  Theresa Calabrese won the ring.  Ralph Jones of Carolina Forest Rotary Club won a gift certificate to the Sea Captain’s House.  Kira Irick, Interactor of the Palmetto Academy, won the Olive Garden gift certificates.

We had a wonderful day living by the 4 way test, putting service above self and building friendships.
