Dr. Susan Libes, Director of the Waccamaw Watershed Academy and

Professor at Carolina Coastal University speaks to The Rotary Club of Georgetown of

the effects of pollution in our waterways.

” The Waccamaw Watershed Academy is currently engaged in research that seeks to

understand the the sources, transport pathways and biological impact of pollutants

in the Waccamaw Watershed. The WWA houses a state certified Environmental

Quality Laboratory that performs water quality researching monitoring including

several volunteer water quality monitoring teams of citizen scientist such as the

Riverkeeper.”

This research is important to all of us in the Low Country. DHEC and other agencies

use this information along with that from other resources to determine water

quality.
