April Governor's Message:

What a great District Conference! Thanks to those of you who attended. It was a busy weekend with a little bit of Rotary and whole lot of fun. I will not attempt to recap it, but I want to ask you now to make plans to attend next year’s conference in Columbia. I can guarantee that you will feel the magic of Rotary in the air. Governor Elect Anne passed out magic wands at the conference - so the magic has begun.

April is Magazine month for us. As I have traveled around and asked the question of how many of you read the Rotarian, I have been disappointed with the number of hands that were raised. Rotary spends thousands of dollars a month producing the magazine and mailing it to every Rotarian in the world. It is our President’s way of trying to connect to us. If you are not reading his message you are missing out. Please start reading his message every month. He is trying to keep us connected to Rotarians all over the world. We do connect and we connect in many wonderful ways.

It’s hard to believe that I only have two and a half months left as Governor. The year has flown by and there is still a lot of work to be done. Foundation Advocates, please continue to visit the clubs and help your clubs get great Rotary programs so that club members can see the needs around the world.

When I visited clubs I asked you to please contribute a little more to the foundation than you did last year. We need to end up ahead of where we were last year. Thanks to Lou Mello, we have gone over the 200 mark on members of the Paul Harris Society. Many of you end up paying the government money every April. Why not make a substantial donation to the Foundation and claim it on your taxes? Our Foundation is our Charity and I ask you to consider making an additional donation today.

Membership is still down and we all need to look for additional people to invite to Rotary. We are a world class organization and inviting people to become part of our group will strengthen our clubs and our communities. Please find someone today and invite them this week. We could top the 5,000 in numbers in our district if you would invite one person to join your club this month. As a gift to me won't you please try to help get the numbers up?

Thank you for helping this District remain one of the best districts in the world. We have been number One in the world two out of the past four years. Can't we do it again this year? We can with your help. Remember to give generously to the Foundation and invite someone today to become a member of Rotary.
