The Rotary Club of Cheraw celebrated a veterans program last week at the regularly scheduled meeting.  The Cheraw High School Cadet Corp under the direction of Gunnery Sergeant Henry posted the colors at the program.
Guest speaker was SGM James T. Flemming (Ret).  A resident of Chesterfield county, Flemming was a team leader in Company C 75th Rangers during the Vietnam War.  Among other combat actions, he participated in the Rescue Mission in Grenada as a First Sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division.  He culminated his career as Sergeant Major of G3 Operations for the 18th Airborne Corp, encompassing forty-two thousand troops and three Army Divisions: the 101st Air Assault Division; Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the 24th Infantry Division; Fort Steward Georgia.  He has established Flemming Funeral Home of Chesterfield, SC; Flemming Funeral Home of Pageland, SC; Flemming Funeral Home of Cheraw, SC; and James Flemming Funeral Director, Charlotte, NC.  He is a licensed funeral director in North Carolina and South Carolina and serves on numerous boards and associations.
Forty-one guests comprised of military, veterans and spouses, attended the lunch meeting that was sponsored by the Rotarians in Cheraw.  Club President Hough-Everage is also a United States Army veteran with 7 1/2 years of active duty service.
At the conclusion of the program, Greg Sanderson was honored as the club’s Rotarian of the month for his outstanding work as committee chair for the recent golf tournament fundraiser.  This major fundraiser funds scholarships, Palmetto Girls State program, Interact Club at Cheraw High School, Cheraw High SAT Wall of Fame, and Christmas Gifts through Standing in the Gap Ministries, and various other community support organizations.
