At the May 13 meeting of the Historic Rotary Club of Charleston, and on behalf of the club and the RCCF, Past President and Advisory Committee Chair Brian Johnson presented three local organizations with grant checks this past Tuesday.

Maggie Bresnihan accepted the check on behalf of Charleston Trident Urban League. Our funds will be used to purchase 5 laptop computers for their Youth Leadership Development Institute, which is a program that provides leadership development, career exposure, educational enrichment and college preparation for foster care and disadvantaged youth in the Charleston area.

Representing and accepting the check for Metanoia Community Development Corporation was Barbara Kingsbury. Our donation will help fund the books and educational resources needed to operate their Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School. Freedom School serves 100 low-income children and is a summer reading –based academic and character building program. In addition to the books used during Freedom School hours, each student will add to their personal library by taking home one book per week during the six weeks.

Janet Segal was presented a check on behalf of Begin with Books. Our funds will be used to purchase and deliver 600 books to 50 children living in the 29403 zip code.

We are proud to support these three outstanding organizations and appreciate all they do in our community!
