Our Presidential/Board Transition meeting commenced with outgoing President John Tecklenburg and club members honoring our new President Digit Matheny with a kazoo serenade to “Hail to the Chief”. After the musical interlude, President Tecklenburg noted how quickly the year has flown by – “time truly does fly when you are having fun”. He said “the past year has been a great one thanks to how wonderful this club is.”

After recognizing the Board, President Tecklenburg discussed our service activities and the impact these activities have on the community. He thanked each member of the club for making the events so successful. A few of the service activities our club participated and organized that President John highlighted were:

  • Trident United Way Day of Caring
  •  Hootie Homegrown Round Up at Burke High School
  •  Dictionary Delivery
  •  Senior Holiday Giving
  •  Literacy Day / Book Drive
  •  Water Missions International/Ironman Achievement
  •  Y-Achievers
  •  Honoring Outstanding Teachers and Students
  • RCCF Grants
  • Rotary Windows
  • Waters Missions Walk for Water
  • Sponsor global scholars and have raised $25,000 for the Rotary Foundation and Polio eradication efforts.

 

 

Following Tecklenburg’s keynote address, former club president and Assistant Disrict Governor, Kyra Morris, installed Digit Matheny as the 2014-2015 President of the Historic Rotary Club of Charleston. (See photo).

Following the installation, President Matheny discussed how honored and excited he is to serve as President of such a wonderful group of people – a group that he considers his “best friends”. He recognized his mentors in the organization, Kyra MorrisDon OswaltBrian JohnsonMichael SaboeBill Hall and Patterson Smith. He also introduced his family members including his wife, Danielle, who were in attendance.  President Matheny thanked the Club for the “trip of a lifetime” – his trip to Australia for the 2014 Rotary International Convention. He and Danielle shared a fabulous slideshow of pictures from their travels in Australia, which started in the capital and most populous city in the State of Victoria – Melbourne. He also shared stories of the Rotarians from 180 countries that he met in Sydney, the location of the 2014 International Convention (June 1-4).
