On June 6, two outstanding Rotarians were recognized at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Cheraw. Trae Michael was selected as Rotarian of the Year and Mel West received the Avenues of Service Citation for Individual Rotarians. Both recipients received plaques for their service.
Trae is the incoming club president for 2018-2019. During 2017-2018, Trae was the membership committee co-chair, lead for the club’s barbecue fundraiser, and worked long hours at the golf tournament major fundraiser. He volunteered with other club members to work at Pee Dee Coalition and presented dictionaries to multiple classrooms of third graders throughout Chesterfield county in completion of the district grant project. Trae worked tirelessly with the members of each committee in order to be a successful incoming club president. (Photos show Trae receiving his Rotarian of the Year pin from president Hough and a group photo with Incoming AG Sherrie Chapman, Hough, Mel & Trae).
Mel is a former club president and currently serves on the board of directors for the club. As fundraising chair, she was lead for the St. Patrick’s Day Event and greatly exceeded our sales in previous years. Along with other club members, Mel volunteered at McArn Food Bank in completion of the district grant project. She attended the district conference this year and will become club president in 2020-2021. She is an active recruiter for new members for our club.
Mel consistently demonstrates support of the Object of Rotary through participation in service activities in each of the five Avenues of Service: Club, Vocational, Community, International, and Youth.
We commend Trae and Mel for their accomplishments!
