On Tuesday Georgetown County Council Chairman Johnny Morant addressed the club on the county’s approach to Strategic Planning. Back as far as 1999, the County Council realized that there needed to be a new approach to planning in a diverse county. With nine council members representing different parts of the county and different constituencies, they needed input from the people they represented.
Vision One was the result. Vision One was developed to give the community a voice. An initial group of 300 citizens was selected to give input. This has led to successful projects being completed throughout the county benefitting all the residents.
One example is the county recreation centers. A need was identified, and now all areas of the county have centers.
The planning process has been received so well that the county is going beyond Vision One to make sure all citizens voices are heard.
This seems very relevant in today’s national discussion on how we all need to talk more and get to know each other better.
Good talk , Mr. Chairman!
