The speaker for the March 12, 2014 meeting of the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo meeting was Jane Hiller, recycling and education director at Sonoco. She talked about recycling and the importance of it. The U.S. has 5% of the world’s population and produces 30% of the world’s garbage. Sonoco Recycling is a Material Recovery Facility. Recycling keeps material out of landfills, conserves natural resources, saves energy and reduces pollution. It cost individuals nothing to recycle but makes a huge difference. The economic impact of recycling in South Carolina is $6.5 billion.

Contributions to the Rotary Foundation help fund humanitarian projects and promote understanding around the world.
At its meeting on March 12, 2014, the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo presented a contribution to Keep The Midlands Beautiful as an ongoing partnership to help recycling and beautification efforts in our community. The check was accepted by Jacqueline Buck, Executive Director.
