The Rotary Club of Mt. Pleasant is committed to promoting Literacy in our area. Each month, our club sponsors/participates in a Literacy activity. In September, for Literacy Day, bookmarks were distributed through the media centers in the area elementary schools. The Dictionary Project has been an ongoing event for our club. This year, our members distributed over 1300 dictionaries to third graders in 13 elementary schools in the East Cooper area. As another way to be involved in the schools “face-to-face” with students, many of our members read holiday stories to 2nd graders at Jennie Moore Elementary School. The members reported that they had as much fun as the students did.
Our club conducts fundraising activities throughout the Rotary year so that we are able to help worthy organizations in our area. In the last few months, we have been fortunate to distribute funds to organizations that help those in need in our community. We focus on organizations that work in the areas of children’s hunger, literacy, health, and well-being, the elderly, and the disadvantaged.
