The journey began September 8th for our Gift of Life patient, 8-year-old Lourdes Iputi from American Samoa. Thanks to Dr. Stu Hamilton for coordinating this very special project for the Spring Valley Rotary Club.
Her first outpatient procedure is set for Thursday, Sept 14 at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital in Columbia. Pediatric Opthalmologist Dr. Alexander Pogrebniak will be doing a “complex extracapsular cataract removal.” The second eye will be then be done on Sept. 21st. Dr. Hamilton, a retired pediatrician, identified this child as a possible Gift of Life patient while on a medical mission trip this summer in American Samoa. In cooperation with the Mission of Hope and Rotary’s Gift of Life program, and with lots of work on Dr. Hamilton’s part, this child will be given the gift of sight. Rotary…..we make a difference.
