In February, the Spring Valley Rotary Club participated in the District’s Rotary Has Heart project. The club selected the Catawba Trail Elementary School Food Pantry as Spring Valley Rotarian Denise Barth is the Principal at this school. Denise gave a brief but impactful presentation to the club about the food pantry needs at the school and then presented the club with a list of items that the food pantry could use.  Members contributed items and delivered them to the social worker at the school.  Rotarian Holly Swan coordinated the food drive. Then in April, members visited Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia and spent an hour volunteering. The club presented Harvest Hope with a total contribution of just over $3,000 for the Backpack Program at Windsor Elementary, where another Spring Valley Rotarian, Beth Elliott is the Principal. This contribution will allow Windsor Elementary to add more students to their Backpack program in the 2015/2016 school year. Funds for this contribution came from the third quarter weekly raffle and from a community grant, with funds raised by the annual pecan sale.
