rotary has heartLast year, we were asked by RIVP Anne Matthews to be involved in an activity onFebruary 14 which revolved around addressing hunger and hunger related issues.  Clubs and individuals were asked to be involved in some activity to demonstrate that “Rotary DOES have heart” and that collectively, we can do something about the 28% of children in South Carolina who face food anxiety issues on a daily basis.  This year, I am asking your club to take the effort one step further – instead of being involved for only one day, I am asking the clubs of District 7770 to be involved in “Rotary Has Heart” the entire week leading up to February 14 (from February 8 – 14, 2015).  What an appropriate way to show our love for our fellow man than to be involved in an effort that feeds the hungry.  Your club can choose any activity that you would like.  Some suggestions include 1) partnering with a local food bank for a food drive or food collection effort,  2) partnering with a local food bank to assist with bagging or distribution of food or 3) collecting funds to be given directly to the food bank to assist in purchasing food items.  No matter what you choose – it should be about YOUR local community and how we as Rotarians can make a difference.  Once you’ve decided what activity you will be involved in and have conducted your effort, please let your AG know.  Send him/her pictures and a description so that we can tell your story district-wide.  For those clubs who have yet to organize a “Rotary Day”, this is the PERFECT opportunity to combine service with public awareness.

When I contemplate all of the ways that we can “Light UpRotary”, it is difficult to choose just a few.  With this issue being so prevalent in our district, I see this as the perfect chance to show that Rotary Has Heart and that we act on our beliefs and our values.

Best wishes to you as you put this effort together – can’t wait to hear about all of the wonderful things your club will be doing during this week!
