Former State Lieutenant Governor Yancy McGill joined the Chapin Rotary for breakfast and spoke to the club about the issues and challenges of his new position as State Director of the Office of Aging. His office aids over 34,000 older adults who have the greatest social. economic, and health needs, and rural and low-income elders.

The Chapin Rotary Club celebrated its 20th year of “service above self” with its annual Charter Night dinner at Chapin Town Hall.

Senator Ronnie Cromer joined the Chapin Rotary Club for breakfast and spoke to the members about the major issues confronting the legislature, including our transportation infrastructure, ethics reform, additional social service case workers, and “adequate education” for all  state school districts.

PDG Paula Matthews joined the Chapin Rotary for breakfast and renewed many friendships and old acquaintances. Paula is now the Rotary Coordinator for Zone 33, and spoke to the club on a number of issues, but most importantly, membership.

Members of the Chapin Rotary Club completed their dictionary project for the year with the distribution of 57 books to the Little Mountain Elementary third graders. The club had previously handed out over three hundred dictionaries at Chapin and Lake Murray Elementary schools. Lisa Smith (L) spoke to the Chapin Rotary Club about the disaster relief effort called “ShelterBox “. Also pictured is Chapin Rotary President Barbara Seward.
One ShelterBox provides a durable tent for an extended family of up to 10 people and life-saving tools, such as water purification supplies, blankets, a cook stove, and mosquito nets. The program, which has provided aid to more than a million survivors around the world, is actively supported by Rotary International. Ms Smith assumes the club presidency next July.

District Governor Ed Duryea visited with the Chapin Rotary Club in August and outlined the opportunities and challenges for the coming year.
Welcoming Ed were, from L-R, PAG Richard Kenan (Chapin), DG Ed Duryea (Beaufort), PAG George McConnell (Chapin), Past District Secretary John LaFond (Chapin), AG Rod Funderburk (Lake Murray-Irmo), and PDG Mack Branham (Chapin). Not pictured was Johnny Moore, an Assistant Governor elect, also from the Chapin Club.

The 18th annual Chapin Rotary Charity Golf Classic is ready to roll! the tournament will take place at the Timberlake Country Club on Friday, September 14, 2012. the shotgun start at 12 noon will feature  four -person  Texas Scramble teams.
