Members of the Chapin Rotary Club traveled to Chapin Elementary to hand out 154 new dictionaries to the school’s 3rd grade classes.The annual project is spearheaded by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ballentine (center). Mrs.Ballentine was a former principal at the school. The club will also be distributing free dictionaries to each 3rd grader at Lake Murray Elementary and Little Mountain Elementary.

The Chapin Sunrise Rotary Club first introduced a float to the Chapin Labor Day parade in 2004 and have had a float ever since. The parade is one of the largest in the Midlands, attracting over 30,000 visitors to town. It’s a club family affair with members children encouraged to ride with them on the float. This year, fans advertising the upcoming golf fund raiser were passed out along the parade route.

Mr. John LaFond was recognized by District Governor Ed Duryea as the Chapin Sunrise Club recipient of the “Four-Way test ” Award.
The award recognized Mr. LaFond for adhering to high ethical standards in his professional career and in his personal interactions with the community. This was not an award for service, but rather a well-deserved recognition for Mr. LaFond’s commitment to the Rotary’s principles of truth and fairness to all concerned.

CHAPIN ROTARY CLUB CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC IS SET TO TEE-OFF !

 

Chapin Rotary President Barbara Seward says that the 18th annual Chapin Rotary Charity Golf Classic is almost here!  The tournament will take place at the Timberlake Country Club on Friday, September 14, 2012.  The shotgun start at 12 noon will feature four-person Texas Scramble teams.   Prizes will be abundant, including awards for first, second and third place teams, closest to pin, four longest drive awards and highest score.

The entry fee includes cart and green fees and dinner after play is completed.  Free beverages and snacks will be available during play.  There will also be many door prizes and every player will get a “ditty bag” of goodies.

The Chapin Sunrise Rotary Club is a service club that serves Chapin, the Greater Columbia area and through Rotary International, people all over the world.  The tournament is the club’s annual fundraiser, with all net proceeds applied to the service projects they carry out or support.  These projects range from awarding scholarships to local students to supporting ICRC Senior Program, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Chapin Community Youth Athletics and many other programs.

Chapin Rotary is seeking contributors, sponsors and players for the event.  Team applications have been rolling in and the club hopes to sign up a full 30 teams.  Parties interested in playing or otherwise supporting the event should call Thomas Hrica (803-603-7860), Eric Holcombe (803-260-5204), or Scott Hood (e-mail shood@hoodanddouglasconstruction.com) for more information and application forms. Entry applications and fees must be received by September 10, 2012.
