5_DSC_1397-XLPat Richards, a member of the Daniel Island Rotary Club and Literacy Chair for Rotary District 7770, was recognized by District Governor Jimmie Williamson at the recent district conference with the Rotary Club Builder Award. Pat led the district wide literacy project this year which culminated in hundreds of books being boxed up at the conference thanks to book drives at many District 7770 Rotary Clubs.

DI rotaryOn Sept. 25 the Rotary Club of Daniel Island hosted local author and historian Robert Rosen and Congressman Mark Sanford.
Robert Rosen talked about Civil War history in Charleston 150 years ago. Congressman Sanford provided a brief update on
activities in Washington DC and fielded questions and comments.

Daniel Island Rotarians participated Saturday April 13 in the 13th annual Special Olympics Bocce Tournament. This event raises funds for athletes to compete in events throughout South Carolina and beyond. The weather was terrific, and the day was enjoyed by all – a great opportunity for Rotary fellowship. Special thanks to Angela Black Drake and her husband Lucas for bringing the food and beverages!

DG Paula Matthews and DGE Lou Mello and their spouses attended the 6th annual Rotary Charity Duck Race in Charleston on June 2 – This event led by St. Andrews (West Ashley), Summerville, Daniel Island and North Charleston Breakfast Rotary Clubs raised over $100K for Charleston area charities and Rotary projects!
