On Saturday, August 25, the Christ Central Ministries/Nehemiah Project Fast Track GED program held their GED Graduation Gala. Reverend Scooter Scott (Nehemiah Project) and Reverend Kenneth Taylor (Turner Memorial AME) led the celebrations, and Dr. Sonny White (Midlands Technical College) gave the graduation speech.

It was a truly amazing event as seventy-eight (that’s right, 78) community residents received their GEDs at this graduation ceremony.  The program was free to them.

50+ community volunteers pitched in to help tutor, or drive, or feed, or celebrate with them.  The most significant cost of this program is the GED textbook, which costs about $11.50 each.  West Metro West Columbia Rotary Club contributed $500 to the Christ Central Ministries/Nehemiah Project Fast Track GED program to help offset the materials cost.

The picture shows the faces of the new GED holders… their pride in achievement is what makes our efforts worthwhile.
