(Pictured Left to Right are Rob Fowler, Stephanie Bates and Mike Bloser) The Oktoberfest 5K Run 2014 brought out 316 runners and walkers this year. What a great event for our community! Many thanks to all of the club members and volunteers who made this event a success. A special thanks goes out to Mike Bloser and Stephanie Bates for heading up this year’s race. We are proud of their accomplishments. Stay tuned for more on the results of the funds raised as we finalize the numbers. Great weather and awesome food provided by Lawton Hayes’ team from Service Master of Charleston made the after party lots of fun. Runners and guests enjoyed this great food along with beer provided by Coast Brewery, Palmetto Brewery and Westbrook Brewery while they listened to the Oompah Band. A huge thank you goes out to all of our sponsors who’s financial support and donations in kind made this event possible. Thank you to Service Master of Charleston, Jimmy Johns, The Hoove LLC, Try Sports, Coast, Palmetto, Westbrook, Coward-Hund, SCE&G, South State Bank, Wal-Mart at the Market at Oakland, McQuire & Company, Stubbs Muldrow & Herin, ALZ Properties LLC, Earthsource Engineering, American Drug Testing, ADC Engineering, Curry Engineers, Stuhr Funeral Home, Mike Schmitt, Division Five, Engineering Foundation Inc. and Pile Drivers Inc. We are a volunteer organization that meets weekly to connect with one another and work together to have a positive impact on the Mt. Pleasant community. We are involved in many local charities and programs. Learn more about our organization and membership at http://www.ecbrotary.org/. TOYS FOR TOTS

toysfortotsEast Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club will team up with the local Marine Reserves Unit again this year in our annual Toys for Tots Bike Drive.  Our Rotary club has donated over 1500 bikes since the beginning of the effort and the donations have continued to grow.  Our club has received a grant from District 7770 (Eastern South Carolina) that requires a matching club donation and this will be provided thanks to the support of our Oktorberfest 5K Race sponsors and race participants.  These efforts are not only sponsored but supported through volunteers, vehicles and personal time supplied by Norman Lunsford from Wal-Mart at Oakland Plantation, Lawton Hayes with ServiceMaster of Charleston, and David Schwarts with SouthLand Landscape Management.  Without the efforts of the above mentioned supporters, this project would not be possible.

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE

East Cooper Rotary Breakfast Club support Rotary Youth Exchange where students ages 15 – 25 spend up to a year living with host families and attending school in a different country.  These students act as ambassadors, teaching people they meet about their country, culture, and ideas, and maybe learning a foreign language along the way.   More than 80 countries and over 8000 students each year participate in the global program, which is administered at the regional level by Rotary districts and at the local level by Rotary clubs.  Our club supports those local students who are selected to participate in the program.
