The Rotary Club of North Myrtle Beach held its 37th Annual Lloyd Bell Memorial Golf Tournament last Saturday at the Long Bay Golf Club. The tournament raises funds for local high school seniors college scholarships. Last year the club gave away 15 scholarships and with the success of this years tournament it will be able to give out the same amount if not more this year. The tournament was sponsored by Haden Hamilton with Raymond James Investments, Charlie Stuart with State Farm Insurance, Jud Kuhn Chevrolet. A special thanks to Boardwalk Billy’s, Trivinia and Ultimate California Pizza for bringing out food for the golfers and the Caddy Girls for their help as well.
The tournament raises funds to support our local high school students with college scholarships. There were two celebrities who played in the tournament, Gus Williams, a retired American professional basketball player most noted for his play with the NBA Seattle SuperSonics, although he also played for the Golden State Warriors,Washington Bullets and Atlanta Hawks. James “Bonecrusher” Smith was also out supporting the local charity, an American former boxer who was, between December 1986 and March 1987, the WBA heavyweight champion. He was the first heavyweight champion with a college degree. Both are pictured with their team supporting the great golf tournament.

Joining the NMB Rotary Club’s breakfast meeting for the past few weeks were visiting Rotarians Jack Arnold, from upstate New York (left) and Murray Green, from Canada. Needless to say, while the rest of us are bundled up, they found the weather conditions a relief from what they are used to this time of year.
