The Rotary Club of Five Points raised $668 for PolioPlus at the Club’s 1st “World’s Greatest Meal” on World Polio Day, October 24th.  Dr. Eric Brenner, who has worked with the World Health Organization, spoke about polio’s worldwide devastation and how total eradication is within our grasp.

Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation CEO Lou Kennedy (far right) conducts a tour for Capital

Rotary Club members during a field trip to the 408,000 square foot West Columbia facility.

Though still in start-up stages, Nephron represents a $313 million investment and presently has

over 100 employees. It will manufacture and distribute respiratory products, eye drops that

are preservative and additive free, sterile injectable drugs and oral vaccines. Capital Rotary

periodically tours various points of interest throughout the community.

Hilton Head Rotary Honors Top Teachers for 2014

 

The Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island honored the Island’s top teachers for 2014 at their luncheon meeting on October 16, 2014.  Teachers were selected by their schools.  Teacher recognition chair, Mary-Stuart Alderman, thanked the teachers for enriching the lives of their students.  Guest speaker, Jeff Kidd, Executive Editor of The Island Packet, praised the teachers not only for the knowledge they impart but for the curiosity for learning that they inspire.

Each teacher received a certificate of recognition, a wooden apple trophy (hand-carved by a club member), a $50 gift certificate from Reilley’s, and a $40 cash award.
