All 7 of our team members arrived as scheduled in ChiangGF Mai. We were greeted by 7 Rotarians from the 3360 District who took us to dinner and then sorted us out to various host families. On this first day we also saw one Buddhist school and temple helping to orient us to the eastern tempo. Interesting, the dinner was at a Chinese restaurant, which the Thai hosts thought would ease us into Thai food.
Friday the 4 city dwellers in our exchange wandered the city market and shops before joining the 3 rural dwellers for lunch at real Thai walk in outdoor market. Next we were dropped off at large mall where we found anything needed and forgotten. Betty Slesinger, one team member, introduced us to her son who lives and teaches in the area. He gave us summary of border issues in northern Thailand and local Rotarians explained Saturday’s upcoming overnight trip to Rotary sponsored school in one of the Hilltribe areas.
