On April 7, 2021, Dr. Kristin Schroeder was the speaker at the Club’s weekly breakfast meeting held virtually and in person.  Dr. Schroeder is a pediatric neuro-oncologist who splits her time equally between Duke and Tanzania.  The non-profit organization that she founded in 2014 treats children diagnosed with cancer in Tanzania.  Daniel Island Rotary Club contributes to this impactful cause.  

On April 14, 2021, Members met virtually during their weekly breakfast meeting to have an open forum that addressed many questions about the upcoming fundraiser.  Members were also able to have small group discussions and catch up with one another in break-out sessions.

On April 22, 2021, Rotarians co-hosted the Speaker Series, where Matt Sloan was the guest speaker.  Matt was instrumental in the development of Daniel Island.  He was able to walk those in attendance through the process of the stages of development of the Island and confirmed that the Developer’s initial goals have been met.  If you missed Matt’s presentation the video is available on the Daniel Island Rotary Club’s website at

On April 28, 2021, Willis Cantey was the speaker at the Club’s weekly breakfast meeting held virtually.  Willis is the CEO of Cantey Tech and educated Members as to the focus of what is new in their industry, including 5G, security, continuous coverage, and artificial intelligence.

Members kicked off their annual fundraiser, the 15th anniversary of the charitable Duck Race, which will be held virtually this year on June 5, 2021. For more information on the event, how to be a sponsor, or to adopt a duck please visit

Mary Jo Romeo Pappas was the April Member of the Month.  Mary Jo brings much enthusiasm to the Club and is the current membership chair.  She owns her own successful business as a coach to individuals, teams, and businesses and encourages others to be their best selves.

The new Children’s Park on Daniel Island was unveiled sponsored by the Daniel Island Club.
