Lou Mello, Rotary 7770 District Governor Lou MelloWelcome to the third month of our 2013-2014 Rotary Year, September is New Generations Month. The Fifth Avenue of Service is New Generations – our Youth Exchange, Interact, Rotaract, Ambassadorial Global Scholars, Rotary Youth Leadership Training alumni and younger Foundation Alumni. Have you stayed in touch with these folks? Have you asked them to join you at a Club Meeting, Service Project, or Fellowship Event? Stay in touch with these young people, they are our future and they are great fun to be around.

I have visited 61 Clubs so far since July 1st and it is amazing what wonderful things are being done by our Clubs. Great service projects, exciting fund raisers and tremendous fellowship events in addition to the fun of the Club meetings. I always leave a Club meeting inspired by what caring and giving folks Rotarians are, how we give our time and talents to serve our communities and to serve folks in other countries that we will never meet.

What’s coming up in September??

First – our Foundation/Membership/Grant Management Training Seminar on September 13th at Seacoast Church in Mt Pleasant.

Registration is open on the District Database Calendar and here are the basic details for attendees:

Grant Management Training Seminar – Requires two from each Club to get qualified for District Grants in the following Rotary year. Recommended that the President and President Elect attend, please note that only two from your Club can attend the session.

Foundation Seminar – anyone in your Club interested in learning more about Foundation Programs, Tools, and reports should attend this session. Highly recommended for Foundation Chairs and new members.

Membership Seminar – Learn more about attracting new members and meeting member needs, highly recommended for Membership Chairs and folks in your Clubs that have successfully brought in new members so they can share their ideas.

Second – Rotary Leadership Institute on September 20th in Columbia at South University. Registration is available on the District Database under the Calendar tab. http://www.rli33.org/

Third – Clubs may begin to submit Nominations for District Governor for the 2016-2017 Rotary Year. Nominations are due no later than December 15, 2013 and are to be sent to PDG Ed Duryea who will Chair the Nominating Committee meeting on January 23, 2014. Details including the Governor Nominee form will be sent directly to the Club Leadership.

For individuals that may have an interest in the District Governor position in the future, please plan to attend an information session immediately following the conclusion of the Foundation/Membership/Grant Management Training Seminar at Seacoast n Sept 13th. The Executive Committee will discuss District Governor responsibilities and qualifications and answer questions.

Fourth – The information for purchasing Holiday ornaments is now available on the District Database under the Calendar tab. $10 of every purchase will go to the “End Polio Now” program and those will be matched by the Gates Foundation two to one for every dollar.

Are you sending in your stories to our District Website at Rotary7770News@gmail.com? Don’t miss the opportunity to get your Club’s activities, service events, fellowships and fun meetings into the weekly News-email. Great way to promote your Club’s events and it’s always fun to see photos of one another in action.

Have you set goals to increase membership this year by at least three new members? Have you engaged all your members in being part of the “Membership Team”? This is something that all Rotarians should take pride in, sharing our Rotary opportunities with others. Have you looked around you at family, friends and neighbors; these are people that you know the best and they are wonderful candidates to join Rotary.

Finally, mark your Calendars for the celebration of your Club’s accomplishments by attending the annual District Conference in Charleston March 28th – 30th , 2014. It will be a great time and looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Let’s all have a great year as we “Engage Rotary and Change Lives”.

Regards

Lou Mello DG 2013-14
