Fall has been busy for the Florence Breakfast Rotary Club.  Just as the children have gotten back to school, club members have gotten busy with the children!  Like many clubs around the district, our Happy Feet project resulted in some 75 children at the Boys & Girls Club in Florence getting new shoes.  Our club, in cooperation with Rack Room Shoes,  put smiles on the faces of these children as they proudly selected new shoes.  It was hard to tell who was having the better time–the kids or the Rotarians!

Also, our club, along with the other two Florence clubs, continues to participate in the Ridde Program (Rotarians in Drug Deterrence Education).  This is an alcohol and drug prevention program designed to teach various skills to local third graders.  Counselors from Circle Park, the Florence County Drug and Alcohol Commission, present didactic information for about 30 minutes.  The children then break out into small groups, led by the Rotarians, and follow up with a hands-on exercise to further demonstrate and reinforce the day’s topic.  It’s informative and lots of fun while hopefully teaching new skills to these children.  The program runs for a total of 8 consecutive weeks.

And what fall would be complete without Trick or Treating.  Rotarians donated candy, then met at the Civic Center to give out the candy to special needs kids.  What excitement the children had collecting their candy and how much the Rotarians enjoyed handing it out.

And for the adults…the club recently sponsored a Clemson-Carolina package weekend as a fund raiser.  Congratulations to Felix McLellan with Dillon Insurance Agency who won the package.  Rotarian Robert Tilton sold the winning ticket.  Although Felix isn’t a member of the Florence Breakfast Club, he is a fellow Rotarian.  He’s a member of the Dillon Rotary Club.
