On August 21st, the Rotary Club of Hartsville hosted its first-ever “Discover Rotary” membership event. The purpose of the meeting was to give prospective membersthe information needed to help them decide if Rotary was right for them. In the four weeks leading up to the meeting, members were asked to invite at least one person to the gathering. We had wonderful food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere. Nineteen Rotarians were present, all wearing name tags that said “Ask me why I joined Rotary”, or, if they were a committee chair, their tag said “Ask me about Fundraising” for example. Fifteen new member prospects attended, one of whom filled out an application that evening, and the next day another of the attendees visited our regular meeting, after which time he, too, completed an application for membership. Eleven of the fifteen guests requested an application.
