The Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017 by undertaking a special project to mark the occasion. Known as the “50 for 50” initiative, members will raise $50,000 to commemorate 50 years of community service and will use that money to bestow a gift to the people of Hilton Head that can be enjoyed for many years into the future.
As described by club president Bruce Siebold: “This ‘gift to the community’ will be a series of interpretive panels installed along the bicycle and leisure path system of the Island. It follows the club’s project in 2013 that created directional kiosks along those pathways. The signs will provide residents, visitors and pathway users with brief ‘factoids’ on Island cultural heritage and natural history, as well as identifying local points of interest along the many miles of these trails. This will greatly enhance the island experience we have all come to enjoy and appreciate.”
In support of the “50 for 50” initiative, the club is holding a raffle with great prizes and good odds of winning. Only 600 tickets will be sold at $50 with ticketholders vying for five prizes, each valued at more than $1000. Five tickets will be drawn on December 3 with prizes to be awarded at the club’s December 10 luncheon meeting at Sea Pines Country Club. Winners will select their prizes by order of the draw. Prizes include:
