Rotary Club of the Lowcountry understands “Service Above Self” as it helps make Beaufort’s 57th Water Festival a success.

It takes many organizations and individuals willing to volunteer hundreds of hours to pull off the 10 day event.  The Lowcountry Rotary Club contributed in a big way, from manning the beverage tent, to serving Lowcountry supper and many other individual contributions.  The club helped make this year’s 57th Festival a really big show!

On two of the nights, you could find many of the clubs members serving all the thirsty festival goers at the beverage tent. Thursday night is the big Lowcountry Supper night where the festival offers up shrimp boil and a concert which was attended by over 3,000 hungry souls.  The Lowcountry Club worked the serving line and dishes up healthy portions of shrimp, sausage, corn, coleslaw, rolls and watermelon.

Charlotte Gonzalez

As far as individual contributions from club members, President Elect Charlotte Gonzalez is one of the Festivals lead volunteers.  Event organizers say Charlotte Gonzalez does a little bit of everything at the Water Festival. Gonzalez is the festival’s Protocol Director, making sure that local dignitaries get invitations to the event’s opening ceremony but that’s not all she does. She cooks for the festival’s nightly entertainment and does just about anything else festival coordinators need her to do. Gonzalez has been volunteering with the festival for the last seven years.

Another member, Jeff Althoff, had the pressure and pleasure to be one of the 5 judges for this year’s Water Festival Talent show featuring over 40 local singing and dancing acts.  The competition was fierce and the talent pool was quite impressive.  Club member Jamie Dailey was on hand throughout the festival to shoot video of all the activities for broadcasting on the local news.  And finally, the club is honored to have one of the Festivals past Commodores in Bob Bible.  This year, Bob’s major contribution was that of performing as one of the members of the world famous Whistlers.  He was a real show stopper!  All-in-all the entire Lowcountry Club enjoys the festival and defiantly adds to the success.
