Subhash C. Saxena, Ph.D., a retired mathematics faculty member from Coastal Carolina University and an esteemed member of the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach, recently delighted Rotarians with his account of the 2019 Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Germany.
Along with information from the conference, he also offered members some little-known facts about his destination. Hamburg is home to Europe’s second-largest port and is known for its cosmopolitan outlook. It offers enough canals and bridges to rival Amsterdam; two inviting lakes in the heart of the city, and easy access to the miles-long North Sea and Baltic beaches. Subhash’s account presented Rotarians with information many knew little about, and few have experienced.
A distinguished professor emeritus, Subhash began teaching at Coastal Carolina University in 1973 and was a mainstay of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics until his retirement in 2000. Today, he supports his community and his university through the Dr. Subhash Saxena Math Research Endowment, the Dr. Subhash Saxena Math Contest and Lecture Series, and Subhash Saxena Scholarship. “We are proud to have Subhash as a member of our club,” said Rotary President Terrance Herriott. “His contributions are numerous.”
