Rotary Club of Charleston contributes $14,000 (and counting) to Hurricane Dorian Relief fund
The Rotary Club of Hurricane has committed more than $14,000 to the Hurricane Relief fund effort being organized by Rotary International District 7020. Club member Rob Byko, whose wife Karen was born in the Bahamas, has spearheaded the initiative which includes donations from the club itself, as well as individual members and friends of Rotary in the Charleston community. The campaign got a big boost from club member, Bill Hall, owner of Hall’s Restaurant Group (including Hall’s Chophouse), who made $1,000 donation when he spoke at last week’s meeting.
Charleston Club member and Mayor of Charleston John Tecklenburg earns Paul Harris +8
Long time Charleston club member and past president, Mayor John Tecklenburg, was recently recognized with his 8th Paul Harris Award, here pictured with Paul Harris Foundation Chair Karl Riner. Rotarian Tecklenburg is in his first term as mayor of the city and is seeking a second term in the November election. The Charleston club will host a mayoral forum with all the candidates on October 29.
Rotary of Charleston helps kids’ back to school pre with Hootie Homegrown event
Rotarians from the Charleston turned out in force for the annual Hootie Homegrown Back to School event this month. The event, organized by members of the popular band, distributed school supplies to kids from area schools. The RCoC manned its tables and gave out notebooks, pens and pencils, and a wide range of other supplies to help get off on the right foot for the new school year.
