The North Myrtle Beach Rotary Club’s guest at their Tuesday lunch meeting, Dana Black, Executive Director of the North Strand Housing Shelter, spoke to the club about the shelter and the programs that they have to offer. They are the only shelter in our area to accept families and they’re in the process of building a new facility that will house 53 people. This facility will also include a Veterans’ wing. Not just providing shelter, North Strand’s residents have 7 days to become part of a 60 or 90 day program that will help get them back on their feet. Transportation is available to them while they look for work, but they are also responsible for daily household chores around the shelter. North Strand has a No Tolerance policy for drugs or alcohol and partnered with Miller-Motte, they offer residents access to job search support such as resume writing and interview skills.
