Rotary-International-wallpaperSince it’s inception in the 1996, the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary in Mount Pleasant has striven to positively affect our community in many ways with ‘hands on’ volunteering projects and fund-raising to benefit the local community. We are a volunteer organization that meets weekly to connect with one another and work together to have a positive impact on the Mt. Pleasant community. We are involved in many local charities and programs. Learn more about our organization and membership at http://www.ecbrotary.org/. The proceeds from this race will be used to help fund two of our Rotary initiatives, Toys For Tots and Rotary Youth Exchange. Read below to learn more about these programs and the impact they have on our community.

toysfortotsEast Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club will team up with the local Marine Reserves Unit again this year in our annual Toys for Tots Bike Drive.  Our Rotary club has donated over 1500 bikes since the beginning of the effort and the donations have continued to grow.  Our club has received a grant from District 7770 (Eastern South Carolina) that requires a matching club donation and this will be provided thanks to the support of our Oktorberfest 5K Race sponsors and race participants.  These efforts are not only sponsored but supported through volunteers, vehicles and personal time supplied by Norman Lunsford from Wal-Mart at Oakland Plantation, Lawton Hayes with ServiceMaster of Charleston, and David Schwarts with SouthLand Landscape Management.  Without the efforts of the above mentioned supporters, this project would not be possible.

East Cooper Rotary Breakfast Club support Rotary Youth Exchange where students ages 15 – 25 spend up to a year living with host families and attending school in a different country.  These students act as ambassadors, teaching people they meet about their country, culture, and ideas, and maybe learning a foreign language along the way.   More than 80 countries and over 8000 students each year participate in the global program, which is administered at the regional level by Rotary districts and at the local level by Rotary clubs.  Our club supports those local students who are selected to participate in the program.
