The ROTARY CLUB OF CAROLINA FOREST SUNRISE  SALUTED CLUB MEMBERS WHO ARE MILITARY SERVICE VETERANS AND LEARNED ABOUT STUDENT VETERANS SERVICES AT COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY 
THE MEMBERS OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF CAROLINA  FOREST SUNRISE SALUTED (THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE) ALL CLUB MEMBERS WHO SERVED OR WHO ARE SERVING IN THE MILITARY BRANCHES AS PART OF MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH AND IN ADVANCE OF VETERANS DAY, NOVEMBER 11. THE CLUB MEMBERS  LEARNED OF THE HISTORY OF THE STUDENT VETERANS SERVICES AT COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY.  PICTURED IN THE PHOTO(LEFT TO RIGHT) ARE RALPH JONES, BOB WHITE, BOB SQUATRIGLIA, BOB LEPORE,GUEST SPEAKER DENNY POWERS, USAF COL. ANDY KIRACOFE,  CAROLINA FOREST HIGH SCHOOL JROTC CADET CAPTAIN  AND GUEST ANTONIO GOMEZ, PORTER MEDLEY, AND CARLOS SCHEER. DR.POWERS, DIRECTOR OF VETERANS SERVICES AT CCU, REPORTED THAT THERE ARE 435 STUDENT VETERANS AT CCU, AND VETERANS ENJOY A HIGHER COMPLETION RATE THAN USUAL STUDENTS,ENJOY A VETERANS LOUNGE, FREE PARKING PASS,  HAVE A VETERANS CLUB ON CAMPUS AND REPRESENTATION ON STUDENT GOVERNMENT. A VETERANS TRANSITION SEMINAR WILL BE OFFERED FOR THE FIRST TIME NEXT FALL AND THERE IS CURRENTLY OFFERED 'GREEN ZONE TRAINING'TO ORIENT FACULTY AND STAFF AS TO HOW VETERANS ADJUST TO CIVILIAN LIFE. IT WAS ACKOWLEDGED THAT  ROTARIANS  BOB SQUATRIGLIA AND PORTER MEDLEY, CHARTER MEMBERS OF THE THEN NEWLY  FORMED CCU FACULTY/STAFF/ ALUMNI VETERANS ASSOCIATION ORGANIZED IN 2010, HAD RECOMMENDED THE HIRING OF A VETERANS SERVICE COUNSELOR AND THE CREATION OF A VETERANS SERVICE OFFICE ALONG WITH  EXPANDED CAMPUS SUPPORT OF THE CCU ARMY ROTC PROGRAM. BOTH RECOMMENDTIONS WERE ACCEPTED AND ARE SIGNIFICANT PIECES IN THE CCU DESIGNATION OF 'MILITARY FRIENDLY CAMPUS'.  THE ROTARY CLUB MEETS THE FIRST AND THIRD WEDNESDAYS OF EACH MONTH AT 7 AM AT BEEF O'BRADY'S, CAROLINA FOREST/KROGER MALL. INTERESTED PERSONS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME AT OUR BREAKFAST MEETINGS.
