On February 26, 2014 the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo recognized the student of the month for February 2014. Ann Copelan, Principal at Seven Oaks Elementary School, presented Jada Washington to the club as the February student of the month. Jada is someone who helps others, including her grandparents and her fellow students. She is involved with her church, plays basketball and serves on the school student council. The Rotary club was proud to present Jada with an award for “service above self” the motto for Rotarians and a gift certificate from the Sonic Irmo/Ballentine location. Sonic graciously rewards students making great choices in our community. His parents Gregory and Cheryl Washington were in attendance.
On February 26, 2014 the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo presented a check to Ballentine Elementary School for its canstruction project. This project was the idea of Jacob Clark to use 7,000 cans of food to create structures as a competition and then to use the food to help the less fortunate. Accepting the check were Robin Bright, Principal, Jennie Goforth, Reading Interventionist and Jacob Clark, student at Ballentine Elementary. The Rotary club members are also providing cans of food as a part of this very worthwhile project.
