Twenty five members from the Sea Island Rotary club, and our assistant DG Dick Bowen from the Rotary club of the Low Country, participated in Dragon boat racing during the 59th Beaufort Water festival on July 26th.
Each Dragon boat is made up of twenty paddlers, a drummer and a coxswain. We had over 600 competing paddlers, comprising twenty eight teams racing this year in Beaufort. The event raises money to help cancer patients across the board, with anything from transportation, to bills, and even the grocery tab.
The “Rotary Strokers” finished in the top one third of the twenty eight teams; as you can see in the Bluffton Today news article. We all had a great time, raised money for a good cause, and had a lot of exercise to boot. We all agreed we will “Be back next year”
