As part of the March 3 Rotary Rocs(Rotarians Offering Community Service), 58 elementary, middle, and high school students worked with Rotarians to pack 16,200 meals to be distributed to those in need in the World.
Hannah Chenault from the Rise Against Hunger Organization (http://www.riseagainsthunger.org) led the packing team in initial instructions on how the packing was to occur and then the team was off to the races. The packing team combined soy, rice, vegetables, and a vitamin packet into a clear bag as they listened to great music and waited for the gong to sound as each meals packed total was announced in 2000 increments. The gong would sound and cheers were heard from the team. The team worked together in smaller groups of 8-10 to combine their efforts in packing the meals. All meals were packed in just 2 ½ hours. The meals were boxed and loaded onto pallets to make their way to those in need in the world. The team worked tirelessly not knowing exactly who they were helping but knew they were “doing good in the world”!!!!!
Truly a “service above self” effort and making a difference.
