Anne Matthews, long-time community activist, Rotarian, and internationally known

humanitarian, was the guest speaker at the Blythewood Rotary Club’s weekly meeting on

Thursday, Nov. 6. Ms. Matthews, challenged the Blythewood Rotarians to be ever mindful that

much of the world lives in poverty and that we must do all we can to provide resources to

address the needs of so many. She also saluted the activism of the Blythewood Rotary Club

and encouraged members to do even more.

Acting Senior Sergeant Barry McErlean from the Queensland Australia Police Service is visiting Richland County Sheriff’s Department this week.   Barry visit the Blythewood Rotary this morning and explained that he is in the North America conducting a research study and is visiting law enforcement to learn about missing persons, child abductions and Amber Alert and criminal investigations.

Due to a longstanding partnership with the Queensland Police Service Barry is working with the different investigations personnel of RCSD and will also be meeting with the SC Law Enforcement Division and FBI personnel to gain and share as much information as possible to save lives and capture criminals.

The Blythewood Rotary Club has an affinity for Queensland due to our partnership with Blythewood High School and the Queensland College of Wine and Tourism with the Chef William Turner Exchange Program.

Annually, the Blythewood Rotary Club presents scholarships to deserving area students. At a recent meeting, $1,000 scholarships were awarded to three students. Presenting the scholarships are Rotarians Nancy Gregory and Martha Jones. The students are:

At its weekly meeting last Thursday at Columbia Country Club, the Blythewood Rotary Club and Blythewood High School announced it was naming its one of a kind Australian culinary student exchange program “the Chef Turner – Blythewood Rotary Student Exchange Program”, in honor of Chef William Turner. Pictured are Blythewood Principal, Keith Price, Tory, Katie and Ellie Turner and Captain Chris Cowan.

Senator Joel Lourie poses with the Chef William Turner family after presenting a framed citation proclaiming that the S.C. Senate had recently adjourned in a moment of honor and remembrance of Chef Turner for his many years of service to the students in our community.

Congressman Joe Wilson was the speaker at the March 20th meeting of the Blythewood Rotary. A Rotarian himself, Congressman Wilson congratulated the Blythewood Rotary for its years of service to the Blythewood community and promised to help the club in any way he could in the future.

Two new Rotarians were sworn in as members of the Blythewood Rotary on March 20. They are Fifth Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson and Mr. Ronnie McLean. Also pictured are Congressman Joe Wilson and Blythewood Rotary President Margaret McLain.
