Myrtle Beach Chicora Shares Anti-Bullying Campaign

Last year, our Rotary motto was “Peace through Service.”  The Presidential Citation challenged clubs to create an original peace imitative.  My Chicora Club in Myrtle Beach spent weeks trying to find a worthy project.  We settled on an anti-bullying project in the public schools, “Cool Kids Don’t Bully.”  Interested club members led by past-president Bob Bellamy created a neat video which you can view at

The committee also created a 30 minute presentation which we have offered to several fourth grade classes.  After the summer, we have re-activated our program and now have more requests than we can handle.  Some classes have seen a basic bullying program; our presence reinforces the values which the children have heard before.  In other classes, our program is new and important to the children.  Our video incorporates 3 cartoon clips from Cinderella and Wreck-It Ralph.  The children really turn on to our stories and are anxious to share their experiences and their solutions to this terrible problem.

Almost every week in the news, we hear of school bullying and cyber-bullying.  Suicide is the tragedy which occurs all too often, when young minds cannot take it anymore. Tonight, the nightly news told the story of NFL players who have still not absorbed our vital message.

We would encourage other clubs in District 7770 to get involved.  We will be happy to share our video and our curriculum.
