On December 17, 2013, the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club donated 175 bicycles to Toys for Tots. Rob Fowler along with several representatives from the U.S. Marines were on hand for the presentation. This year’s donation significantly increased over the previous year. Many thanks to all Rotarians who participated in this worthwhile event that mean so much to the children in our community who benefit from it. A special thanks to Tripp Hoover for all of his hard work in coordinating the collection of funds, purchase and delivery of the bikes.

The 2nd Annual Oktoberfest 5K Run/Walk brought out 250 runners and walkers along with many more attendees for the after party.
The event benefits Toys for Tots and the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Perfect weather and a great venue starting and ending at the Sweetgrass Pavilion underneath the Ravenel Bridge created an excellent setting complete with music by a German band, beer on tap provided by Westbrook Brewery and Palmetto Brewing Co. and plenty of bratwurst prepared in outstanding fashion by our friends from ServiceMaster of Charleston. A big thank you goes out to Lawton Hayes and his crew for all of their hard work with the event.
We want to thank our chairman for the event, Mike Bloser, for putting together such an awesome event. Wearing his Lederhosen, Mike really gave this party authenticity. Thanks for all of your hard work Mike. Through your efforts, the event hopes to net around $5,000 for the charities. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make this event a success.

Rob Fowler, meteorologist at WCBD TV, was our first guest speaker. He was introduced by his friend Paul Heinauer of Glasspro.
Rob’s presentation included information about how he arrived in Charleston many years ago, the forecast and how it is broadcast, and all the modern tools he uses to predict the weather.
