Walter Hughes will be taking a team of Rotarians to Ghana from February 10-22. The dates will be a little flexible to adjust to the best airline tickets on Delta Airlines. Our goal is to be in Ghana for approximately ten days. Our theme is a celebration of Rotary projects in Ghana. We want to encourage Rotarians in the Tamale and Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Clubs. We will have a good sized team on this trip. Several Rotarians from District 7550 in West Virginia and Anne Matthews will be on the team. We are going in the dry season.
Summary of Trip
Our goal has several components:
- Celebrate Rotary’s Work: The primary objective of this trip is to be what Rotary humanitarian projects have done in northern Ghana over the last seven years.
- See Potential Future Projects and Get to know a few of Walter’s favorite villages: Figure out our goals for global grants for 2014-2015.
- Encourage, Strengthen and Lift Up: We will strengthen, encourage and lift up the Rotarians in Ghana.
- See Borehole Being Drilled and have some time to spend in one or two communities to get to know people and their needs.
More details from Rotarian Walter Hughes:
We will leave on February 12, 2014 and return on February 22, 2014. We will have about seven or eight days in Ghana with the rest of the time spent in travel. We plan to take the Delta direct flight from JFK New York to Accra, Ghana to reduce the international flight time. We will also fly from Accra to Tamale. My plan is to take the team to northern Ghana. I had two choices: a northern route or a southern route. I choose to show the team the Northern Region and Upper East Region of Ghana. It holds most of my favorite villages and people. The itinerary is tentative and will change. I’d appreciate knowing what your goals are for this trip.
I’ve added a tentative day to go to Mole Game Park if that has an interest to you. Your passports will need to expire after August 2014 or you will need to get a new passport. We will also apply for a Ghana Visa. Information about immunizations is in the guidebook. Some of the shots require multiple vaccines so it is good to start that process three or four months prior to our trip.
