Dear District 7770 Rotarians,
I want to sincerely thank District 7770 for my 2010 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship. I have been fortunate enough to speak to some of your clubs and via Skype at the 2011 District Conference, but for those of you who don’t know me — I left for Cape Town, South Africa in January 2010 to study at the University of Cape Town.
I have since completed my work for my Masters in International Relations and received a distinction on my thesis. I’m currently working as an English teacher at LEAP Science and Math School in Cape Town where I volunteered during my scholarship year.
My experience as a Rotary Scholar ignited my passion for education and gave me an opportunity to connect with an amazing school and serve an under-served community.
I also want to share another piece of exciting news — During my scholarship year, I actually met the man who is now my HUSBAND! 🙂 We got married on 7 July 2012 in Garden City, South Carolina. It was a beautiful ceremony on the beach and we were blessed to be supported by my Rotary Sponsor Counselor, Lou Mello and his wife Teresa who attended the ceremony. I’ve shared some pictures with you.
Once again, thank you for the tremendous opportunities the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship afforded me and the lifelong gift of being part of the Rotary family.
Kristen Thompson, 2010 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar to Cape Town, South Africa
