Global grant scholarship candidates and Coastal Carolina University students, Lucia Zats and Sophie Sumpter recently presented Myrtle Beach Rotarians with highlights of their scholarship applications.  Lucia, a PR/Communications and Hospitality major, has chosen Economic and Community Development as her area of focus and hopes to mentor impoverished women in South Africa to develop profitable, sustainable businesses. Sophie, a Public Health Major, has chosen Maternal and Child Health as her area of focus. She seeks to improve access to sexual health for adolescent girls and women in displaced settings such as refugee camps.  “It’s a pleasure to work with these young scholars. I’m constantly amazed at their levels of academic excellence, enthusiasm, energy and community involvement. They indeed exemplify Service Above Self,” said Rotary Foundation Chair, David Parsons. David has been on the club’s Global Scholarship Committee for four years and has been the Club Foundation Chair for two years.
