On March 20, 2014, James Clyburn, U.S. Representative, SC 6th District, spoke to Spring Valley Rotarians about several topics worthy of note to concerned and engaged citizens. First, Rep. Clyburn shared how he and his wife Emily met in jail while protesting the living conditions in which they were living at the time. They are now about to celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary and are proud parents and grandparents. Next, he discussed many of the challenges South Carolinians currently face such as illness, poverty and education. He expressed frustration that South Carolina is not more successful based on the resources we have in our state. He encouraged each of us to be more respectful and compassionate towards one another and make a dedicated effort towards making the Palmetto State a better place in which to live.
