Lexington County Veterans Affairs Director Ed Lundeen gave an emotional account to the West Metro Rotary Club last week of his journey with World War II veteran Red Smith of Lexington and other veterans to Normandy for the 70th anniversary commemoration of the D-Day landing June 6, 1944. The U.S. National D-Day Memorial Foundation reports that 2,499 Americans and 1,914 from other Allied nations were killed, a total of 4,413 dead. To arrange for Lundeen to share this memorable experience with your civic, church, youth or veterans group, call him at 785-8400.
